I went through normal schooling until i was 16, my father who was an engineer by trade had breed small livestock all his life and was very successful with poultry and Clumber Spaniel dogs; he followed line breeding. Being brought up on a 5 acre small holding in Lancashire, until I was 12 and then we moved to a 30 acre place and when I was nearly 17 we bought a farm nr Moffat which has developed in 1500 acres.

I was doing goat pedigrees from the age of 9 or 10 on a manual typewriter and also spent most weekends on the neighbouring farm working with pedigree Ayrshire cattle. Career wise my first choice would have been to be an auctioneer, but my speech prevented me. I realised there was now future in Ayrshire Cattle career wise and turned to the up and coming Holstein, Two main early meteors were Jimmy Rennie & John Gregson of the Mawdesley Ayrshire herd. which I have followed the breeding and sales of for 40 years.

When I was in Scotland I started going to the marts 3 days a week with a fat lamb buyer and eventually I got buying mainly store stock for farmers I knew do in England and I built that up to buying 15000 store lambs and 2000 cattle a year. Then I got 2 loads of sheep returned! At the same time a farmer and Holstein enthusiast, Howard Sneesby started up a Cattle Artificial insemination business and started work as a sales rep firstly part time and then full-time, returning to live in Lancashire.

I covered the North of England and Scotland until 1999 full-time. By this time Howard had died and I became unfit to continue working due to my muscles being worm out in my back and hips.

After I finished work I started breeding Suffolk sheep as well as doing a HND in computing. Which I never completed because of the sheep and FMD. I decided to sell the sheep because my health and financially.

I never would have thought I would consider being an author but nether I my English and Grammar was good enough! I’ve written this e-mail myself, what do you think?

Another chapter in my life begin in August 2013 when I returned to live in Scotland. Am now living in a bungalow just outside side of Lockerbie and am as happy with my life as I have been for many years.

I have now returned to breeding Canaries after 40 years which I am getting tremendous satisfaction from
